FUNDING 2009/10
Tuition fees of up to £3000 have been payable on post-graduate initial teacher training courses from September 2006. Most providers of Initial Teacher Training are charging the full £3000. Kent & Medway Training has set its fees at £2000
Fee Loan
Trainees are eligible to take out a fee loan to cover this cost. This must be re-paid, over time, once the qualified teacher is earning over £15,000 pa.
Support for Living costs etc
Trainees may also be eligible for a maintenance grant of up to £2700 to cover their living costs whilst they undertake initial teacher training. The first £1200 of this is NOT means tested and we encourage all trainees to take advantage of this grant.
Applications for both the fee loan and the maintenance grant are available from Student Finance Direct www.studentsupportdirect.co.uk. Once trainees have received their offer letter from Kent & Medway Training, they should contact their LEA to confirm eligibility and then the SFD for funding information.
All trainees who meet the eligibility criteria will receive a tax free training bursary of up to £9000 (dependent on subject), payable in monthly instalments, throughout their full time attendance on the course. This does not have to be repaid.
Additional support
Kent & Medway Training believes that no trainee should be prevented from undertaking initial teacher training through lack of funding. Therefore we will award additional grants to trainees on low incomes, subject to means testing.
