Structure of the Graduate Teacher Programme
This is full time, lasting from September to the end of July. After a two day induction in the July prior to starting, you will begin your employment. During the first term you will be introduced to the initial stages of learning how to become a teacher. Focused observations will enrich school-based activities in your school; you will try a variety of these and begin to develop your teaching skills. You will spend Thursday afternoon each week at the KMT centre, The Leigh Technology Academy, engaging in professional study. There will be subject studies twilight sessions at KMT or one of the consortium schools in Maths, Science, MFL, Business Studies, English to develop your knowledge skills and understanding of how to teach your subject. If your subject is not one of KMT's PGCE subjects you will receive subject knowledge training within your school. You will also engage in reflection and research as well as written assignments in order to meet the Q standards and gain QTS.
The majority of your time will be spent developing your teaching skills with the support of your mentor. Subject workshops/training will encourage you to apply continued theoretical study to your practice, reflecting on your experiences, planning your teaching and the development of your pupils, including learning how to exploit ICT to enhance pupil achievement.
