Robert Napier School Robert Napier School is a non selective school (secondary modern) in Gillingham. The school is popular locally and so is regularly oversubscribed. There are 1355 students on roll, well above the national average, including 136 in the sixth form. There is a gender imbalance due to parental preference for the local girls' schools, Chatham Grammar for Girls and Rainham Girls, with two girls to every three boys. The school gained specialist school status in humanities in September 2009 and has been increasing the amount of outreach work we do with our local primary schools over the past three years, related to the subject specialisms of our status, English, history and drama, but also incorporating other subject areas too. The sixth form has grown dramatically in the school. Four years ago we had a sixth form of less than 50 students, with only four courses. Now we have 134 in the sixth form with both vocational and academic courses available with over 50% achieving places at an HEI. The school has a very inclusive ethos and effective actions are consistently taken to promote equality of opportunity, and to ensure all students can progress well at the school. We are a learning community that takes pride in the support we can give to each other to achieve high standards in all areas of school life. |
