Structure of the Course

This is a full time course, lasting from September to the end of June. After a two-week induction, you will begin your first placement. During the first term you will be introduced to the initial stages of learning how to become a teacher. Focused observations will enrich school-based activities at your A placement school; you will try a variety of these and begin to develop your teaching skills. You will spend one day a week at KMT centre, engaging in professional study. There will be subject studies sessions at KMT or one of the consortium schools to develop your knowledge skills and understanding of how to teach your subject. You will also engage in reflection and research for the PGCE, (Professional Graduate Certificate of Education).

The second and third terms bring a wealth of opportunities. The majority of your time will be spent in your 'B' placement school, developing your teaching skills with the support of your mentor. Subject workshops will encourage you to apply continued theoretical study to your practice, reflecting on your experiences, planning your teaching and the development of your pupils, including learning how to exploit ICT to enhance pupil achievement, make personalised provision to meet the needs of individual pupils as well as developing strategies for managing behaviour.
