KMT is an accredited provider of school based teacher training in the South East and across Kent.

We welcome trainees from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience – be it recent graduates from university or experienced professionals looking for a change.

At KMT we’ll support you on your journey. You’ll train to teach in one of our partner schools, spending as much time as possible in the classroom with an experienced practitioner as your mentor.

Routes into teaching

With KMT you have 2 main routes into teaching, all of them involve closely training in one school (your Home School) and gaining teaching experience in a contrasting/alternative setting.

Assessment Only Route

The Assessment Only (AO) route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) allows you to demonstrate that you already meet all the Teaching Standards, without the need for any further training.

You’ll need to present detailed evidence of your teaching and be assessed in school. The whole process takes under 12 weeks, often without leaving your current school.

Where can I train to teach?

We have over 150 partner schools in which you can choose to train to teach. We offer placements in urban and semi-rural settings, single-sex and co-educational schools, both wide ability and selective.

Every KMT partner school has its own distinctive ethos and aims.

Teaching Internship
Teaching Internship

The KMT Internship

The KMT Internship programme provides support and opportunities for young people who are interested in a career in teaching.

It is a 5 year programme (Year 12 through to 3rd year at University) and is aimed at developing confident classroom practitioners equipped to succeed in the challenging and exciting world of education.
