30 Years of KMT: Empowering Teachers, Enriching Classrooms

Celebrating a Milestone
This year marks a significant milestone for KMT as we celebrate 30 years of delivering high-quality, school-based teacher training across Kent and the South East. From our very first cohort in 1994 to the thriving community we are today, our mission has remained constant: to inspire the next generation of teachers.
Our Impact So Far
Over the past three decades, more than 3,000 trainees have achieved Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through the KMT course. Many have gone on to become leaders in their schools and wider communities. Today, we are proud to work in partnership with over 250 schools, forming a strong and supportive network that offers diverse, hands-on training experiences.
As part of a large SCITT, we offer the scale and expertise to deliver outstanding teacher development, while maintaining the personal, family feel that has always set us apart.
What Makes KMT Different
At KMT, our strength lies in our relationships with schools, mentors, and our trainees. We are structured into hubs, enabling us to build close, responsive partnerships at a local level. Our hubs allow us to tailor our support while sharing best practices across the wider network.
KMT’s school-centred training is grounded in real classroom practice from the very beginning. Trainees work alongside experienced teachers, developing practical skills, confidence, and a deep understanding of the profession.
Our course is recognised for its personalised support, inclusive ethos, and strong pastoral care. We listen, adapt, and respond to the evolving needs of our trainees and our partner schools.
Agents of Change
In its most recent inspection, Ofsted described the teachers trained by KMT as ‘Agents of Change.’ It’s a phrase that captures not just what we do, but why we do it. We are proud to train teachers who bring fresh ideas, challenge inequality, and make a tangible difference in pupils’ lives — both in the classroom and beyond.
Looking Ahead
As we step into the next chapter, we remain as committed as ever to shaping the future of teaching. Whether it’s responding to curriculum changes, promoting wellbeing in schools, or embracing innovation in education, KMT will continue to grow and evolve, without losing the personal touch that defines us.
We’re also focused on increasing access and diversity in teaching, ensuring that every child can learn from a teacher who truly understands and reflects their experience.
Thank You
To all the mentors, school leaders, staff and trainees who have been part of KMT’s journey — thank you. Your passion, dedication and belief in education have made these 30 years possible.
Here’s to the next 30.
