Learning by Doing: Ms Eklund’s Practical and Supportive Training Experience with KMT

Secondary trainee Ms Eklund chose KMT for its strong school partnerships and hands-on approach to learning. With the opportunity to apply teaching strategies directly in the classroom and receive ongoing support from experienced mentors, she gained the confidence and skills to launch her teaching career with flexibility and clarity.

What influenced your decision to train with KMT?

They had contacts with several secondary schools, of which I was able to choose one where I was interested in doing my training.

How did you/are you find/ing you find your training experience with KMT?

Comprehensive teaching and learning in pedagogy, which I have been able to apply to practice.

What advantages did in-school training provide?

I am able to try and test various teaching strategies taught and learned through KMT training sessions pretty instantly in a classroom.

What insights or benefits did you gain from your Mentor?

All my mentors have been encouraging and helped me with all my queries, also given me ‘tips of the trade’ ,eg how to manage the workload, etc

What are your career plans after you complete your training?

My plan is to do cover teaching to start with, to get a feel of different schools.

Do you have any advice for those interested in training to be a teacher?

Research thoroughly what the studies entail in terms of time commitment so that anyone thinking of training to be a teacher has a realistic view of expectations and their commitment.
