Leading the Way: KMT selected for NASBTT’s landmark SEND project
At KMT, we have always believed that to be a great teacher is to be a champion for every learner. It is with immense pride that we announce KMT has been selected as one of a small number of SCITTs nationwide to participate in NASBTT’s SEND in ITT Co-Creation Group.
This is one of the most ambitious and impactful projects in NASBTT’s history, and our inclusion highlights KMT’s standing as a leader in the sector.
A legacy of excellence
For 30 years, KMT has been at the forefront of teacher training. As one of the oldest and most established SCITTs in the country, we have spent three decades refining our craft. Today, we are proud to be one of the largest regional SCITTs in the country. However, our involvement in this project isn’t just about our size or history; it is about our commitment to inclusivity.
Why KMT? Our data tells a story
Our dedication to supporting diverse needs is reflected in our own cohort. Nationally, approximately 19% of trainees declare a health condition or disability. At KMT, we see a much higher representation: 22% of our cohort declares a condition at the point of application, a figure that rises to 30.5% following our robust interview and onboarding process.
This suggests that trainees feel safe, supported, and seen at KMT. It is this lived experience and institutional expertise that we are eager to bring to the national stage.
Shaping the future of the sector
The SEND Co-Creation Group will work alongside experts like Margaret Mulholland and Education Support to build a sector-wide content map for SEND within ITT programmes. The goal is clear: to define what “truly excellent” SEND preparation looks like.
By participating in this intensive project, KMT will help:
- Influence national training and shape the resources NASBTT commissions from Summer 2026.
- Enhance the trainee experience, ensuring the next generation of teachers is equipped to support all pupils.
- Improve outcomes for children and young people across the country.
We are honored to represent our partners and trainees in this vital work.
Together, we aren’t just following best practices, we are helping to write them.
