Wobble Week: A Normal Hurdle on the Path to Becoming a Teacher

Thinking about starting your teacher training? It’s an exciting time, but it’s natural to wonder about the challenges ahead. We believe in preparing you for the realities of life in the classroom, which is why we want to tell you about something known as ‘Wobble Week’.
What Is ‘Wobble Week’?
Imagine you’re six weeks into your first term. The initial buzz of excitement—the fresh stationery, the new school smells, the first few lessons you planned—has started to settle.
‘Wobble Week’ is a common point in the academic year (usually coinciding with the approach of the first school break) when the initial adrenaline fades, and the sheer volume of professional and academic pressures can start to feel overwhelming.
The Reality Check
Whether you’re a recent graduate, a career changer, or an experienced unqualified teacher, this demanding phase can cause trainees to feel stress, uncertainty, and sometimes, to question if teaching is the right fit.
A Universal Feeling
Please know that this feeling is incredibly common. It’s a sign that you are deeply invested in your new career, and it’s a completely normal part of your development as a teacher.
At KMT, we don’t just acknowledge this; we are ready for it. We see this wobble as a valuable opportunity for growth, not a reason to quit.
How KMT Supports You Through the Wobbles
Choosing your Initial Teacher Training (ITT) provider is about selecting a partner who will not only teach you to plan lessons but also help you develop the resilience and psychological fitness required for a successful, long-term career.
Here’s how we proactively support our trainee teachers through ‘Wobble Week’ and beyond:
1. Immediate Support and Connection
We strongly encourage our trainees not to struggle alone. We offer easy access to book confidential slots to talk through concerns about workload, placements, or general wellbeing. Having supported many teachers successfully through their QTS year, we are absolutely here for you from day one.
2. Building Personal Resilience
Even before the Christmas break, we embed dedicated sessions to help you manage the pressure. For example, our self-guided Psychology for Learning session focuses specifically on:
- Developing your personal resilience.
- Enhancing self-regulation at this crucial stage in your training journey.
3. Enhancing Psychological Fitness
After the Christmas break, we run a focused, face-to-face workshop in partnership with Bounce Forward, designed to enhance your psychological fitness and resourcefulness. We explore key areas that are vital for long-term career success:
- Positive Mindsets: The role of positive emotion and taking control.
- Dealing with Uncertainty: Cultivating optimism during uncertainty and managing worst-case thinking.
- Success Strategies: Playing to your strengths and recognising the pitfalls of perfectionism.
4. Thoughtful Programme Planning
We understand the demands on your time, especially in Term 2 when you’ll face parents’ evenings and after-school events. We carefully plan our training schedule to ensure we provide essential face-to-face opportunities for you to network, share, and connect with your fellow trainees—while also removing all unnecessary travel during the most intense phases.
Ready to Take the Leap?
Teaching is a rewarding career, and choosing the right ITT provider makes all the difference. At KMT, we prepare you not only with the skills to teach but also with the tools to thrive—professionally and personally.
We view the “wobble” not as a flaw, but as a feature of high-quality, demanding training. By choosing us, you are choosing a programme that helps you not just survive, but excel.
