The Leigh UTC and Inspiration Academy

The Bridge,
Scale: MPS/UPS commensurate with experience + London Fringe Allowance
Job Summary: We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our collaborative English department in the role of Teacher of English starting from September 2024

Students at The Leigh UTC “are proud to attend a school that is realising its vision of ‘developing STEM professionals for the future global market” Ofsted, 2022.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our collaborative English department in the role of Teacher of English starting from September 2024. Successful candidates will be passionate about delivering an English curriculum which supports our vision of developing STEM professionals for the future global market. At The Leigh UTC, we believe our team ethos is the most important aspect of our success, making this a great opportunity for a teacher who wants the opportunity to be innovative and collaborative in a supportive environment. The successful candidate will have a great support team illustrated when a new colleague who has had extensive experience overseas recently praised the ‘warm welcome’ and ‘support’ we have offered.

The Leigh UTC opened in 2014 with state-of-the-art facilities. We are the first UTC to join a multi-academy trust, to become an IB World School, to be built in Kent and among the first Academies in the UK to offer T-levels and Level 3 and 4 apprenticeships. We were the first UTC to open from Year 7 and have been oversubscribed in all year groups ever since, now serving over 800 young people from Kent, Medway and South-East London. We are a pioneering Academy and are looking for like-minded, ambitious people who can make great things happen for the young people in our community.

We aim to develop learners who are not only confident, thoughtful readers, writers and speakers, but who are also interested, independent thinkers. The Leigh UTC is a STEM-based provision, but our learners enjoy and value their studies in English, and see the relevance of the subject to the rest of their studies and to their futures.

The Director of Learning for English is a highly experienced practitioner whose passion is supporting people to develop their practice. The department boasts two lead practitioners who raise the quality of teaching across the school. This overwhelming support makes this a great opportunity for an Early Careers Teacher to develop, but anyone with a strong interest in teaching and learning will love the atmosphere in this department!

This permanent position is offered on a full time basis, offering MPS/UPS commensurate with experience + TLR available for the right candidate for pastoral responsibility.

The Leigh UTC is a very special place to work and pre-application visits or phone calls are both encouraged and welcomed. If you would like to arrange to discuss the role with a member of the team, please contact Linda Evans on Linda.Evans@theleighutc.org.uk
